Tin stabilizers for rigid PVC

30 May 2009

Arkema Inc has added two new grades to its existing line of Thermolite® tin stabilizers for rigid PVC used in thin-wall agricultural pipes, high-shear pipes, large diameter pipes and sewer pipes.

Thermolite 130 and Thermolite 135 from Arkema have been developed so that it is possible to use one single stabilizer for various pipe processes, thus potentially lowering overall tin content while maintaining quality. Switching to a single stabilizer can also lower inventory costs and reduce blending errors. The stabilizers provide high performance and consistent stabilization and can be substituted for other stabilizer products without altering process conditions.
Thermolite tin stabilizers from Arkema are also suitable for the extrusion of electrical conduit and telephone ducts. Both new grades have achieved NSF and PPI provisional approval for potable water applications.
“At a time when the costs of energy and raw materials continue to be volatile, I think the rigid PVC industry will welcome products like Thermolite 130 tin stabilizer and Thermolite 135 tin stabilizer that can help keep their costs down while improving their processes,” said Jim McAliney, general manager, PVC Additives, of Arkema’s functional additives business.
