The approval covers the intended use in all polymers, including those used in high temperature cookware, at a maximum loading of 5% by weight. The pigment also meets numerous other regulations such as AP 89.1, AS 2070, EN 71.3, BfR, CONEG, RoHS, WEEE, ELV, TCLP and the Sony List.
Black 20F944 from
The Shepherd Color Company is jet black in colour and is made with a non-chromium formulation and can generally be used in high-temperature applications where black colour and the absence of chromium are required.
Shepherd says that it has improved hiding power and opacity and tinting strength. It is a strong absorber of UV radiation but is not degraded by UV and therefore resistance to weather and light are good. It has high heat stability (> 600°C or 1,100°F), which makes it suitable for applications requiring colour durability, such as frying pan coatings, barbeque grills, plastic cookware, oven coatings, automotive applications such as muffler/exhaust coatings, and ceramics.
Black 20F944 will be known commercially as a C. I. Pigment Black 26 colorant, also known as a complex inorganic colour pigment (CICP), ceramic pigment, or mineral pigment. It is insoluble in virtually all solvents and resins and will not bleed or migrate. It has good lightfastness, particularly in full tone.
