Minerals used as fillers in plastic compounds have traditionally been used to reduce material costs by replacing a portion of the polymer with a less expensive material. Fluoropolymer masterbatches for wire and cable

30 May 2009

Custom engineered thermoplastic compounder RTP Company has commercialized a line of melt processable fluoropolymer (MPFP) colour masterbatches for the wire and cable industry.

The RTP masterbatches are designed for colouring the complex MPFP resins that are used as plenum space jacketing materials.
The MPFP colour masterbatches from RTP are available in ten common wire and cable industry colour-coding formulations matched to Munsell and RAL standards and will be initially available in fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin systems with other MPFP resins possible. Standard colours, using RoHS compliant pigments, are available worldwide.
The masterbatches have low 3% let-down ratios and good dispersion in processing. They have inherent flame retardancy and low smoke emissions making it possible for fluoropolymers incorporating the masterbatches to be used as a jacketing material for plenum spaces.
It is possible to create custom colour matches and engineered compounds using MPFP resins to meet specific application requirements.
