Reinforced polyamide offers improved mechanical properties

23 November 2006

A new glass fibre reinforced polyamide (PA) from German company TechnoCompound GmbH is claimed to offer improved mechanical properties over existing compounds with the same glass fibre content. According to the company, the new formulation for PA6 and PA6.6 increases notched impact strength by over 70% and flexural strength by around 10%.

TechnoCompound says that these improved mechanical properties not only make these compounds good substitutes for aluminium die castings, but also represent a low-cost alternative to partly aromatic, glass fibre reinforced PA.

Typical applications include housings for electrical appliances and tools, as well as large, rigid housing components for industrial machines and equipment. The compounds also have uses in the automotive industry, for example for coolant reservoirs, fans and valve covers.
