Akzo Nobel launches new antistatic agent
Akzo Nobel Polymer Chemicals, producer of antistatic agents, has developed a new form of its Armostat® 2000 antistatic agent. The lauric diethanol amide (LDA) product is now available in pellet form under the tradename Armostat 2002.
The pellet form was produced using proprietary product-shaping technology and is less prone to caking during transportation, storage and use. As a result, the product allows for easy dosing to polymer processing equipment via solids-feeding systems.
Applications for LDA include polyolefin films and high mineral-filled injection moulded articles. The antistatic agent melts at 45ºC and is usually supplied as a solidified block, requiring the use of melting baths and liquid dosing systems by polymer processors. It has a tendency for caking when used at temperatures as low as 25ºC. However, Armostat 2002 displays excellent non-caking properties up to 35ºC.
