TPE Solutions Inc to distribute PRESEAL TPEs

TPE Solutions Inc has recently become the exclusive North American distributor for Finnish company Premix Oy’s PRESEAL® thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). They are the only highly conductive thermoplastic elastomers to meet the worldwide standards for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications in electronics. Applications for the compounds include: electronic and electrical components; military products; personal digital assistants (PDAs); personal and laptop computers; outdoor and indoor telecommunications fixtures; cars; and disk drives.

PRESEAL compounds are said to be easier to process and more cost effective in comparison to silicones. They can be overmoulded onto most substrates without the use of primers, moulded into complex shapes and fully recycled. They also demonstrate better mechanical and electrical properties than other conductive TPE compounds.

The modified styrene-ethylene/butylene-styrene (SEBS)-based compounds were created for applications requiring high conductivity and easy processing – metal coated fillers provide the electrical conductivity. The TPEs are suitable for both injection moulding and extrusion and allow moulders to produce complex shapes and sizes. Other properties include: good flow characteristics; short cycle times; low compression set; low hardness in a highly filled compound (55-65 Shore A, depending on the filler); a low melt viscosity; low volume resistivity (0.003-0.030 ohm/cm); and high attenuation (90-100 dB). Grades can also be modified to make them galvanically compatible with aluminium.

“The PRESEAL TPEs are far superior to any other EMI shielding materials on the market, with better mouldability and better shielding properties, bar none,” says Jonas Angus, president of TPE Solutions Inc.

Premix Oy’s full range of engineering plastics will continue to be available from Premix Thermoplastics Inc of Milton, Wisconsin, a company affiliated to Premix Oy, with the exception of the PRESEAL line.
