Halogen-free flame retardants launched
US-compounder PolyOne Corp has added halogen-free alternatives to its Bergadur ™ polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) range of flame-retardants.
The new range of compounds includes glass-reinforced Bergadur grades such as PB40 G10 HU and PB400 G30 U. Polyester compounds are used in the electrical appliance market as they have desirable dimension stability, tolerance for a high continuous service temperature, low thermal conductivity and good chemical resistance.
With the introduction of the new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive and the environmental concerns surrounding the use of brominated flame-retardant polymer systems, there is an increasing demand for halogen-free polymers.
