New production plant for Ciba Specialty Chemicals
2 November 2006
Ciba Specialty Chemicals has opened a new plant at its Lampertheim site in Germany. The site will be used in the production of Ciba® MELAPUR® 200 halogen-free flame retardants. Ciba says that the new facility will help meet increased global demand for the product.
MELAPUR 200 is halogen-free and does not require antimony or any other heavy metals as a synergist. It has high thermal stability and low water solubility, making it suitable for use in a wide range of polymer substrates, either on its own or as a synergistic component in flame retardant formulations. It was initially used for compounding glass fibre reinforced polyamides due to its ability to withstand high processing temperatures.
Other products in the MELAPUR range include MELAPUR MC (melamine cyanurate) and MELAPUR MP (melamine phosphate). The products are used in polymers for electrical and electronic applications for power distribution, such as switches and cables.
