New calcium stearates improve quality and appearance
21 September 2006
New calcium stearate products developed by the Organic Specialties Group of Ferro Corporation are claimed to provide improved surface quality and cost-effective processing benefits in surface-critical applications of rigid PVC and polyolefins, such as window profiles and films for consumer packaging.
Ferro says that its surface critical calcium stearate products are specifically engineered to maintain the functionality of calcium stearate as an acid scavenger and lubricant while improving the surface quality in those applications that have a high sensitivity to surface imperfections. They offer a step change improvement in performance versus traditional calcium stearate products as measured by Filtration Index testing, yet are more economical than high-cost precipitated products. Throughput is improved by reducing the need for clean-outs of clogged dies in processing polyolefin textile fibres.
Ferro’s surface critical calcium stearate products are available in both powder and granular forms as Calcium Stearate 500 and Calcium Stearate 600, respectively.
