New masterbatches developed for cable coloration

5 October 2006

Chrostiki SA has successfully launched a new series of colour masterbatches in a PVC-P carrier under the trade name Mastertint® KV. The company says that they are exclusively designed for the mass coloration of PVC-P cables insulation and sheathing. The new series has been designed in compliance with RoHS (EC directive 2002/95) that means that all formulae are heavy metal-free.

The product range includes a variety of RAL shades commonly used in cables industry. As well as the existing range of products, the company says that other products can be developed on request to match other RAL shades.

The pigments used have been selected for their non-toxicity as well as their dielectric properties, resistance to heat, light and migration. A DINP plasticizer and Ca/Zn stabilizer are used for the preparation of the PVC compound, which is produced in Chrostiki’s facilities.

According to the company, Mastertint® KV Masterbatches offer a number of advantages to the cable manufacturer. These include that they are homogenous and offer reproducible colour. They also offer excellent dispersion quality and smooth cable insulation surface, as well as controlled particle size distribution. They can be used in automatic feeding systems and are said to reduce inventory costs. Only neutral PVC compound is used and the need to produce and stock several coloured compounds is being eliminated.
