Heavy-wall PET bottles take on frosted effect

Impressions Packaging is adding a frosted grade to its PET Glass™ line of thick-walled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. The moulded-in frosted effect is achieved using a new masterbatch supplied by custom-colour and special-effect masterbatch supplier Ampacet.

The bottles, available in frost green, blue and natural shades, are made by injection stretch blow moulding for use in health and beauty aid, cosmetic, spa, speciality consumer and other applications. The PET Glass containers are said to offer excellent depth of colour, improved shelf life, high durability and more consistent hot stamping and silk screening with minimal scrap, smudges or voids.

“Combining our heavy-wall PET bottles with the vintage look of internally frosted glass provides an especially attractive look and feel,” comments Rob Hyams, vice president and principal at Impressions Packaging. “These bottles combine the safety of plastic with the clean, premium appearance of frosted or sandblasted flint glass. The moulded-in, frost-effect avoids the time and expense of a secondary coating step and the need for special handling to prevent damage to the coating.”
