Heat reflecting masterbatch adds colour to PVCu

Colour Tone Masterbatch and Freefoam Plastics have developed heat reflective colour masterbatches to reduce the surface temperature of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVCu) building and roofline products.

Traditionally the solution to heat dissipation has been to colour everything white but the heat reflecting infrared pigment technology incorporated into Vynacol polymer specific PVCu masterbatches enables any colour to be used successfully. It is also said to offer temperature performance profiles of up to 40% lower than conventionally coloured materials.

Other potential applications for heat reflective plastics include outdoor furniture, leisure and agricultural goods, as well as automotive industry components, especially in countries where temperature and light energy are high. While the formulations have been developed to work in PVCu, Colour Tone says the technology is transferable into other polymers which will serve to broaden entry into other market sectors.
