Ultramarine features improved acid resistance

Holliday Pigments has launched a new XAR acid resistant grade of its ultramarine pigment, which is an improved version of its Premier AR grade.

Ultramarine is made acid resistant by an inert coating deposited on the surface of the pigment particle. Premier XAR demonstrates 50% improved acid resistance and a 50% decrease in the effects of abrasion compared to previous best-in-class grades.  Plastics coloured with the pigment are also said to show no colour deterioration after being exposed to concentrated hydrochloric and sulphuric acid for several hours.

“The improved acid resistance makes it particularly suitable for a wide range of exterior end uses where exposure to acid rain can be expected,” says Steve Bell, Holliday Pigments’ sales and marketing director. “Premier XAR would therefore be the best choice for a whole host of plastics applications ranging from stadium seating through to use in the automotive industries.”
