Teknor Color Company adds to PETek range
Teknor Color Company, producer of colour concentrates for thermoplastic processes, has launched three new products in its PETek™ range of colour concentrates for use with polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The new concentrates can be used for film, sheet, bottles and other moulded products.
The colour system was previously only available as the minibead product but is now available in alternative forms, which are said to offer the same superior clarity and colour uniformity when compared with conventional colour concentrates for PET.
The new products include two standard-size bead and pellet series based on the same proprietary carrier-resin as in PETek minibeads and a traditional concentrate based on a standard PET-resin carrier.
The three new PETek series all come in standard bead or pellet sizes and address different processing requirements. The large bead series contains the same proprietary carrier system as the minibeads. Their larger size causes them to melt later in the barrel and avoid screw slippage. The modified series is a modified version of Teknor Color’s proprietary system. The concentrates reduce screw slippage and can be used at very high loadings for applications requiring a high degree of opacity. The traditional series concentrates have a standard PET carrier resin. They are recommended for prevention of premature melting, particularly when there is little or no provision for cooling at the throat of the processing machine.
“Because the proprietary carrier-resin system developed by Teknor Color incorporates so readily and uniformly in PET, the PETek concentrates based on it impart a degree of haze-free crystal clarity and sparkling, swirl-free colour that is unachievable with conventional colorants for PET,” says Meritt M. Siers-Foster, senior research chemist. “As a result, PET processors can significantly reduce scrap rates and enhance the appeal of packaging and consumer products.”
