UK pigments plant to close
Holliday Pigments is closing its UK manufacturing site of ultramarine blue pigments, resulting in the loss of 95 jobs. According to parent company Yule Catto & Co. the closure of the Kingston-upon-Hull plant is a result of the cumulative effects of the weak US dollar and increasing competition from low cost Asian and Eastern European suppliers. The company will concentrate its European manufacturing operations at its site in Comines in Northern France.
Glynn Jagger, Holliday Pigments’ operations director, said: External factors have contributed to reduced profitability within the business and, in particular, at the Hull site. The company has considered a number of options to secure its long term leadership position in the market and it has become clear that it is no longer viable to maintain two manufacturing operations in Europe.”
