Liquid feeder incorporates innovative blending method

12 October 2006

Process Control Corporation, manufacturer of auxiliary equipment and systems, has introduced a new gravimetric liquid feeder to its range of X-Series continuous gravimetric blending systems. The company claims that the new feeder will be more economical for applications requiring the introduction of liquid silane for crosslinking, liquid sponging for foaming or liquid colour.

Pelletized materials, regrind materials, powder materials and liquids can be weighed, fed and blended accurately by the blender in three stages. The system weighs the ingredients at the beginning of the process using Process Controls patented digital signal processing (DSP) weighing technology. The next step involves the accurate feeding of the ingredients. An auger/gearmotor combination is used to feed the pellets, flakes or regrinds, and powders. Liquid is pulled from the holding container by a positive displacement pump. The liquid is then fed into the blend through a precision nozzle.

The final part of the process involves the mixing of the ingredients. A new patent pending blending method has been developed by Process Control, allowing the solid and liquid materials to be combined without mechanical agitation. Cascade blending is used to coat the solids with the liquid ingredient. This process is made possible through the continuous metering of the solid ingredients in the first two functions of the blender.
