Internal mould release reduces build up in moulding

Axel Plastics Research Laboratories has developed an internal mould release that is said to resolve poor release and reduce build up in moulding dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) resin.

MoldWiz® INT-DCP220 is a 100% active, synergistic blend of complex organic materials that do not contain silicone or metallic stearates. The company claims that its properties make it ideally suited to demanding resin transfer moulding (RTM) applications, particularly in the automotive industry. The typical loading level for the additive ranges from 0.5% to 1% based on weight. The low viscosity additive can be incorporated by both resin formulators and moulders as it remains stable during storage and handling. It is most appropriate for use with resin systems that use methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) or alanine aminopeptidase (AAP).

“INT-DCP220 has increased the ease with which parts can be de-moulded and significantly contributed to maintaining moulds in cleaner condition, permitting our customers to keep moulds in service for as much as five times longer,” says Nancy Teufel, Axel’s global product manager.
