Production gains result from kneader retrofits

17 August 2006

Buss has introduced a new way in which customers can upgrade their existing MKS-Series Kneaders to newer quantec technology. A retrofit kit featuring the 4-flight quantec compounding technology can now be used to convert 1990’s-style Modular Kneader System (MKS) compounding kneaders for a fraction of the cost of a new machine, claims the company. Buss asserts that increased throughput rates of 20-30% are typical with this modification.

According to Buss Inc., the retrofit kit puts 4-flight screw design into the same process space where 3-flight compounding screws operated. The company adds that the only proviso is that both upstream feeders and downstream processing equipment need to be properly sized to keep up with the increased production rates of the kneader.
