US and Austrian companies strike pelletizer deal

US-based Reduction Engineering and Austrian company Econ GmbH have entered into an agreement where Reduction Engineering will market and service the Econ line of underwater pelletizers in the Americas. Initially, Reduction Engineering will provide sales and technical service to customers in North, Central, and South America, but ultimately the company will provide Econ with an American manufacturing base as well. In March 2008 Reduction Engineering will complete construction of a new $3.5-million headquarters plant not far from its current facility in Kent, Ohio.

According to Reduction Engineering, the agreement with Econ makes it a complete source of pelletizing systems, offering strand and underwater systems that are characterized by innovative designs for increasing machine uptime and saving costs.

The patented Econ design differs from other systems in its thermal isolation of the die plate from the die head. The Econ technology eliminates freezing of die holes, lowers head pressure, and minimizes heat loss to the cooling water. The energy savings made possible can be as great as 95%, claims the company. Another Econ innovation is a built-in treatment and recirculating system for process water that eliminates need for the water-bypass required in conventional pelletizers. The system separates pellets and process water and, while the pellets are dried, filters the water and returns it for re-use.
